Licensing FAQs — What to know

What are the basic licensing requirements?
You must be at least 18, hold a high school diploma or GED, complete the state licensing course (63 hours for sales associates; 72 for brokers), and pass the DBPR exam.
Who offers pre-license courses?
Approved providers include accredited universities, colleges, technical centers, and real estate schools under Florida Statutes. Our company is pursuing in-house course licensing.
Can specialty CE courses satisfy my 45-hour post-licensing?
No. Post-license must be fulfilled with FREC-approved post-licensing courses designed specifically for that requirement.
If I fail the post-license exam, can I retake it?
Yes—one retake after 30 days and within 1 year of your original exam date. If you fail again, you must repeat the course.
What if I miss a post-licensing session due to illness?
You may make up sessions within 30 days of the original course end date using Commission-approved content.
What happens if I don’t finish my 45-hour post-license before expiration?
Your license becomes void. You’ll need to repeat the pre-license course and state exam.
Can I complete my 14-hour CE online?
Yes. FREC-approved correspondence and online formats are allowed if they meet state guidelines.
What CE is required for renewal?
14 hours per renewal cycle after the first, including 3 hours Core Law, 3 hours Ethics & Business Practices, and 8 hours specialty.
